Online Art Therapy
Why is online art therapy different?
A tactile, stimulating experience. Art therapy is outside the ordinary conventions of online talk or text therapy.
In increasingly online times the prospect of more online commitments can be disinteresting- even boring!
Online restlessness and fatigue is noticeably present in community.
Art therapy functions differently to usual online meetings associated with work or study. With artmaking there is space to create something personal and new, occupying your hands and engaging your mind. Art therapy breaks away from top-down expectations of consistant eye contact, speaking or silence. Whilst connecting you with a therapist all at once.
Why go online?
Access is key. Folk may choose or require online support for many reasons.
Whether you have daily demands that makes life too busy, a complex health condition or live in a remote location far from clinicians- you’re welcome to show up however and from wherevever you need.
“Disabled Rest” is a term used to describe both the need for conserving energy and celebrating the right to do so. Many folk with complex psychological and physical issues need to stratergise how and where they use their limited energy. Getting out of bed and to an office may not be viable if it means a trade off with daily care needs.
However, as with most wisdom that comes from the disabled community, this way of navigating the world is something all folk can learn from and utilise.
